Sixty Eighth Place, Faith, Hope and Love
Today, hundreds of Arizona youth are at risk. Because of
neglect, abuse and abandonment, they are no longer able to
live with their families. Their greatest need is to find a
place to call their own where they can begin rebuilding
severely shaken lives. This involves a safe and comfortable
environment, food, study, recreation and healthy
relationships. They must be treated as individuals with
special attention given to their particular needs.
In Maricopa County, group home placements are in demand to
serve those whose needs are greater than foster care can meet
and yet not severe enough for residential treatment centers. Sixty
Eighth Place, Faith, Hope and Love was created by
Southwest Leadership to help Arizona fill that gap...to help
each girl gain a new start in life.
Sixty Eighth Place, Faith, Hope and Love is a
community based group home for abused, troubled or homeless
girls. This family centered program opened in 1990 to provide
teenage girls with a safe and comfortable home environment.
This includes caring supervision, varieties of formal and
informal therapy, and models of healthy relationships. It's
goal is to encourage emotional health, self esteem, social
appropriateness and coping skills in a positive and supportive
environment.
Sixty Eighth Place, Faith, Hope and Love is licensed
through and operates on a contractual basis with the Arizona
Department of Economic Securities Administration for Children,
Youth and Families. The program staff works to carefully
select girls who could most benefit by the small, intimate
setting of Sixty-Eighth Place.
Residents
The group homes take physical custody and guardianship of
girls, and provide a 24-hour support and treatment plan.
Residents have a history of neglect and abuse. The results of
abuse are devastating -- severely affecting the way in which
the girls view themselves and their worlds. Individual
Development Plans target specific areas of need, develop
goals, and monitor progress. For residents, the opportunity to
live in a functional home and to be treated fairly and with
dignity makes a significant difference in their self-esteem,
confidence and behavior.
While some residents find our group homes to be a temporary
home while they work to resolve problems within their
families, others make it a more permanent home. The girls
attend local schools and, like their peers, enjoy music,
talking on the telephone and shopping. When appropriate, they
use various community services.
